Treats symptoms of an overactive bladder, such as incontinence (loss of bladder control) or a frequent need to urinate.

When Trospium Chloride Should Not Be Used:
You should not use Trospium Chloride if you have had an allergic reaction to trospium, or if you have problems passing urine (urinary retention), uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma, or problems with food emptying from your stomach (gastric retention).
How to Use Trospium Chloride:
Long Acting Capsule, Tablet
- Your doctor will tell you how much of Trospium Chloride to use and how often. Do not use more medicine or use it more often than your doctor tells you to.
- It is best to take Trospium Chloride on an empty stomach. Take the medicine 1 hour before a meal.
- Swallow the extended-release capsule whole with water. Do not open, crush, or chew it.
- Trospium Chloride comes with patient instructions. Read and follow these instructions carefully. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.
If a dose of Trospium Chloride is missed:
- If you miss a dose or forget to use your medicine, use it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then to use the medicine and skip the missed dose. Do not use extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.
How to Store and Dispose of Trospium Chloride:
- Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light.
- Ask your pharmacist, doctor, or health caregiver about the best way to dispose of any leftover medicine after you have finished your treatment. You will also need to throw away old medicine after the expiration date has passed.
- Keep all medicine away from children and never share your medicine with anyone.
Drugs and Foods to Avoid While Taking Trospium Chloride:
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
- Make sure your doctor knows if you are also using any other medicines to treat incontinence, or other medicines that can cause dry mouth or constipation (such as atropine, dicyclomine, glycopyrrolate, scopolamine, Bentyl®, Robinul®, or Transderm Scop®). Tell your doctor if you are also using metformin (Glucophage®), morphine, pancuronium (Pavulon®), procainamide (Procan®, Procanabid®, Pronestyl®), tenofovir (Viread®), or vancomycin (Vancocin®, Vancoled®).
- Do not drink alcohol while you are using Trospium Chloride.
Warnings While Using Trospium Chloride:
- Make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have kidney disease, liver disease, bladder blockage, myasthenia gravis (severe muscle weakness), narrow-angle glaucoma, ulcerative colitis (inflamed bowel), or stomach or bowel problems (such as chronic constipation).
- Trospium Chloride may make you sweat less, causing your body temperature to increase. Use extra care not to become overheated during exercise or hot weather while you are taking Trospium Chloride, since overheating may result in heat stroke.
- Trospium Chloride may cause you to be dizzy, drowsy, or have blurred vision. Avoid driving, using machines, or doing anything else that could be dangerous if you are not alert or able to see well.
- Your doctor will need to check your progress at regular visits while you are using Trospium Chloride. Be sure to keep all appointments.
Possible Side Effects While Using Trospium Chloride:
Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:
- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing.
- Change in how much or how often you urinate.
- Fever, chills, cough, sore throat, and body aches.
- Painful or difficult urination.
If you notice these less serious side effects while taking Trospium Chloride, talk with your doctor:
- Bad taste in your mouth.
- Blurred vision.
- Constipation, nausea, stomach pain, upset stomach, gas, or bloating.
- Dry mouth, nose, or eyes.
- Headache.
- Stuffy or runny nose.
If you notice other side effects that you think are caused by Trospium Chloride, tell your doctor.
